§ 27-01-040. Drivers.

  • (a)

    The owner of each vehicle for hire shall notify the department of public safety of the name, age, and New Mexico driver's license number of each driver employed, immediately upon the employment of that driver.

    (b)

    Each driver shall obtain a license from the city before operating any vehicle for hire. The license shall be on a form prescribed by the city clerk.

    (c)

    No driver shall be issued a license to operate a vehicle for hire where:

    (1)

    The driver does not have a current valid New Mexico driver's license of appropriate class which has not been suspended or revoked;

    (2)

    The driver has been convicted of driving under the influence of an alcoholic beverage or any drug, or has accumulated more than six (6) driving points, within the preceding year.

    (3)

    The driver has been convicted of a felony within five (5) years preceding his/her employment.

    (d)

    If any driver does not continue to meet the conditions specified in subsection (b), that driver's license to operate a vehicle for hire shall be revoked as specified in section 17-01A-040.
