§ 2-04-130. Mayor's Youth Advisory Council—Duties and responsibilities.

  • The youth advisory council shall have no executive or administrative powers or authority except as herein provided, and sections 2-04-120—2-04-180 shall not be construed as depriving city elected or appointed officials of any power they may have under the laws of the state or the charter of the city. The youth advisory council shall be advisory and is created for the purpose of providing a youthful viewpoint of community affairs. The powers, duties and functions of the council shall be as follows:

    (1)

    Make recommendations and advise the city commission concerning solutions to specific problems involving the youth activities of the community.

    (2)

    Assist in planning and implementing social, educational, cultural and recreational activities for youth.

    (3)

    Inform and educate other youth of issues facing the city and opportunities for youth involvement in city and community affairs.

    (4)

    To instill a feeling of positive self-worth and esteem, to teach teamwork and respect for the rights and property of others, to promote community pride and to eliminate violence and other negative influences among our future community leaders.

    (5)

    To provide an opportunity for the youth of the city to acquire a greater knowledge of and appreciation for the American political system through active participation in the local government.

    (6)

    To allow the youth of the city to make a difference through their participation and contributions to city government and in service to the people of the city.
