§ 4. Districts.

  • Prior to the 2014 regular City election, the Commission shall divide the City into six (6) districts. For the 2014 regular City election only, to the extent possible, consideration may be given to avoiding contests between incumbents or the shortening of an unexpired term of an incumbent. Redistricting for the 2014 regular City election shall not result in the extension of the unexpired term of any incumbent beyond four (4) years. Each district shall be compact in area and as nearly equal in population as is possible. The boundaries of each district shall be established by ordinance. Within one year after publication of each National Census, the Commission shall reaffirm that the City is divided into six (6) Districts that are compact in area and as nearly equal in population as is possible.
