Transporters carrying less than three thousand five hundred (3,500) gallons and delivering
hazardous cargo locally, are not required to follow the hazardous cargo routing. However,
good judgment should be used in routing deliveries not necessarily by the shortest
route but by the route less hazardous to the local community.
With the exception of those transporters delivering hazardous cargo to local business,
all other transporters will use the hazardous cargo routing as designated in sections 12-05-050 and 12-05-060. White Sands Boulevard is the U.S. Highway 54/70 business route and a designated
hazardous cargo route. White Sands Boulevard also provides food, lodging, fuel and
other services for transporters. Those transporters who are not seeking food, lodging,
fuel or other services shall use the Highway 54/70 Relief Route around the city. Vehicles
transporting hazardous cargo shall maintain proper shipping documents and placarding
in accordance with DOT Regulations.
